Confronting the Armed Subject

Course Description:  This course will explore the critical factors that promote, impede, and ultimately determine officer survival when confronting a violent attacker armed with an edged weapon or firearm.  This course will consist of classroom lecture and practical exercise.
 
Instructional Hours: 1 Day/8 Hours
 

Instructional Objectives:  To expose students to the essential elements of officer survival when confronted by an armed attacker.

Upon completion, students will have explored:

  •  Core essentials of the survival mindset.
  •  The survival triangle.
  •  Mental preparation.
  •  Tactical imagery.
  •  Reaction time science and the limits of human physiology.
  •  Hesitation pitfalls and contributing factors.
  •  Anatomy and psychology of an edged weapon attack
  •  Edged weapon defense and disarming.
  •  Firearm disarming.

Course Completion Requirements:  Attendance and successful completion of a knowledge check, as well as participating in all practical exercises.  

Audience:  PSP Enlisted, LCE, LEO, MP

Additional Information: All students are required to bring casual gym attire.
