Critical Listening and Multi-Tasking
Course Description: This course will cover communication; hearing; listening; multi-tasking, and risk management. It emphasizes the importance of listening rather than hearing when dealing with the public and Troopers on the radio; the practice of active listening and the pitfalls (there are numerous exercises incorporated); discusses risk management during the call taking process, and the importance of multi-tasking.
Instructional Hours: 1 Day/6 Hours
Instructional Objectives: After completion, the student will be able to:
1. Be able to define communication.
2. Know the difference between hearing and listening.
3. Be aware of the importance of multi-tasking.
4. Understand risk and how to mitigate risk.
Audience: PCO; Municipal/County Dispatchers
