Critical Listening and Multi-Tasking

Course Description: This course will cover communication; hearing; listening; multi-tasking, and risk management. It emphasizes the importance of listening rather than hearing when dealing with the public and Troopers on the radio; the practice of active listening and the pitfalls (there are numerous exercises incorporated); discusses risk management during the call taking process, and the importance of multi-tasking.

Instructional Hours:  1 Day/6 Hours 

Instructional Objectives:  After completion, the student will be able to:

  • Be able to define communication.
  • Know the difference between hearing and listening.
  • Be aware of the importance of multi-tasking.
  • Understand risk and how to mitigate risk.

Course Completion Requirements:  Attendance and successful completion of a knowledge check.

Audience:  PSP PCO, PCO

Additional Information: Class participation is required.
