ICS 400 - Advanced ics for command and general staff, complex incidents, and macs


Course Description: This two-day course provides training on and resources for personnel who require advanced application of the Incident Command System (ICS).  This course expands upon information covered in the ICS-100 through ICS-300 courses.  This course uses the same objectives and content as other ICS courses with law enforcement examples and exercises.  This course is designed to provide overall incident management skills rather than tactical expertise.  In addition, this course utilizes group table-top exercises on expanding incidents.
ICS-400 is not an independent study course.  Affected Pennsylvania State Police members shall attend a scheduled ICS-400 training course administered by PEMA-Certified Instructors through the Pennsylvania State Police Academy.
Instructional Hours:  2 Days / 16 Hours
Instructional Objectives:  At the end of this course, participants should be able to:
  •  Explain how major incidents pose special management challenges.
  •  Describe the circumstances in which an Area Command is established.
  •  Describe the circumstances in which Multi-Agency Coordination Systems are established.
Audience:  PSP Enlisted; MP
Note:  The primary audience for this course are senior personnel who are expected to perform in a management capacity in an Area Command or Multi-Agency Coordination System, or as part of an Incident Management Team.
Additional Information:  Within the Pennsylvania State Police, this course is mandatory course for Lieutenants and above. 
Pre-requisite(s):  ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-700, and ICS-800.
