Internet Crimes Investigation

Course Description: The course is designed to educate the experienced law enforcement officer in the areas of internet crime investigation.  Upon completion of this course, attendees will have a better understanding of the process involved with investigation online crimes including social networking sites as used by victims, witnesses, and suspects.  The various sites will be explored, and the students will learn a general overview of how to find out what data is available on the sites themselves.

Instructional Hours:  2 Days/16 Hours

Instructional Objectives:  Upon completion of this course, the student will be exposed to the knowledge and skills required to begin and complete a successful internet crime investigation.

After completion, the student will be exposed to:

  • The various types of social networking sites.
  • Procedures for completing various investigations on each site.
  • Evidence logging during an investigation.
  • Search warrants for internet investigations.
  • Police liability.
  • Data that can be retrieved.
  • Testifying in court.

Course Completion Requirements:  Attendance and successfully pass (70% or above) a 20-question written examination.

Audience:  PSP Enlisted, LEO, MP
