municipal police rifle instructor
three-day course is designed for the experienced police officer possessing
above-average proficiency in the use of firearms. Students will be required to score 90% (90/100
phase one and 135/150 phase two) or higher on the rifle course and 90% or higher
on a written exam to receive the Patrol Rifle Firearms Instructor’s Certificate. THIS
COURSE WILL BE LIMITED TO THE AR PLATFORM RIFLE. NO AR PISTOLS WILL BE AUTHORIZED FOR USE IN THIS COURSE. No short barreled
rifles (SBR’s) or AR-pistols will be authorized for use in this course. Instruction will include: List and locate the
nomenclature of the AR platform rifle, patrol rifle marksmanship skills, patrol rifle
handling, body positions and rifle positions, zeroing the patrol rifle with
iron sights, sighting in optics, daytime and nighttime shooting drills, rifle
combat qualification course, patrol rifle instructor assessment and field
strip, clean and maintain the AR platform rifle.
Scoring: TQ-15 Target
Innermost rectangle = 5 pts.
Outermost rectangle = 3 pts.
Rest of silhouette = 0 pts.
Miss silhouette = Failure of phase
Phase I - 95/100 REQUIRED
Phase II - 142/150
INSTRUCTIONAL HOURS: 3 Days / 24 Hours
INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course the student will
be able to:
List and locate
the parts of an AR platform rifle
different body and rifle positions
and sight in an AR platform rifle
accurately call the courses of fire for the AR platform rifle
department personnel on the AR platform rifle
Minimum of 10 dummy rounds
Soft body armor, if available
Personal eye and ear protection
Department-issued handgun and 3 magazines
Complete set of department-issued duty gear
Seasonal weather gear
Handheld flashlight with tail cap on/off switch, if
Firearms cleaning kit (handgun and rifle)
1000 rounds of rifle ammunition
50 rounds of pistol ammunition
Must have a Valid Firearms Instructor
certificate – Certificate should accompany the enrollment application.
