Municipal Police Rifle Instructor (MPRI)
Course Description: This
three-day course is designed for the experienced police officer possessing
above-average proficiency in the use of firearms. THIS COURSE WILL BE LIMITED TO THE AR PLATFORM RIFLE. NO AR PISTOLS WILL BE AUTHORIZED FOR USE IN THIS COURSE. Instruction will include: List and locate the
nomenclature of the AR platform rifle, patrol rifle marksmanship skills, patrol rifle
handling, body positions and rifle positions, zeroing the patrol rifle with
iron sights, sighting in optics, daytime and nighttime shooting drills, rifle
combat qualification course, patrol rifle instructor assessment and field
strip, clean and maintain the AR platform rifle.
Instructional Hours: 3 Days/24 Hours
Scoring: TQ-15 Target.
Innermost rectangle = five points.
Outermost rectangle = three points.
Rest of silhouette = zero points.
Miss silhouette = failure of phase
Phase I - 95/100 Required.
Phase II - 142/150 Required.
Minimum of 10 dummy rounds.
Soft body armor, if available.
Personal eye and ear protection.
Department-issued handgun and three magazines.
Department-issued or personally owned AR-15 rifle, meeting the listed requirements.
Complete set of Department-issued duty gear.
Seasonal weather gear.
Handheld flashlight, with tail cap on/off switch, if possible.
Firearms cleaning kit (handgun and rifle).
800 rounds of rifle ammunition.
50 rounds of pistol ammunition.
Instructional Objectives: Upon completion of this course the student will
be able to:
List and locate the parts of an AR platform rifle.
Demonstrate the different body and rifle positions.
Accurately zero and sight in an AR platform rifle.
Safely and accurately call the courses of fire for the AR platform rifle.
Qualify their Department personnel on the AR platform rifle.
Course Completion Requirements: Attendance and successfully score 90% (90/100 Phase I and 135/150 Phase II) or higher on the rifle course and pass (90% or above) on a written examination.
MP - (Note: for the purposes of the MPRI course eligibility, MUNICIPAL POLICE is defined as agencies that are required to submit their annual firearms qualification to MPOETC for retention. Further clarification can be obtained by contacting MPOETC at (717) 346-7747).
Must have a Valid Firearms Instructor
certificate – Certificate should accompany the enrollment application.
$300.00 - Pre-payment is not required for registration. Checks should be made out to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and mailed to the Pennsylvania State Police Academy once the student receives an acceptance letter into the course. Cost:
