Police Reports and Time Management

Course Description: This course will focus on identifying and improving upon deficiencies in report writing and managing one’s time in the course of daily police activities. Participants will receive information and feedback on proper structuring and requirements for report narratives. Requirements of narratives for crashes, criminal incidents, and DUI reports will be examined and outlined. Additionally, the course will cover the narrative requirements for Police Affidavits of Probable Cause for Arrests. Participants will also be assisted in adopting ways to enhance their management of time for report completion and timely submission. Through this, the course will ultimately strive to reduce uneasiness and stress caused therein, and overall improve work performance.

Equipment Needed:  Students may want to bring the following:

  • Notebooks.
  • Writing instruments.
  • A laptop if desired.

Instructional Hours:  1 Day/8 Hours

Instructional Objectives:  Upon completion of this course, the student will learn time management skills to assist in utilizing their time more efficiently.  The student will be able to explain and demonstrate the attributes that make up clear, concise, comprehensive, and complete reports through in-class discussions, writing exercises, and analyzing police report narrative examples.

Course Completion Requirements:  Attendance and successful completion of a knowledge check.
