Course Description: This two-day class is designed to provide an effective law enforcement approach to investigating sexual assault investigations by utilizing current research findings and forensic techniques. The focus will be on conducting a thorough investigation regarding interview techniques, detailed written reports, medical examinations, false rape allegations, Rape Trauma Syndrome, and court preparation.
Instructional Hours: 2 Days/16 Hours
Instructional Objectives: Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
Understand the victim's perspective.
Understand the role of Victim's Services.
Identify the types of questions to ask during an interview.
Identify phases of Rape Trauma Syndrome.
Understand the role of a SANE/SAFE examiner.
Understand the importance of forensic examination.
Identify red flags of false rape allegations.
Understand the variation and complexity of evidence that can be important in these cases.
Properly interview and interrogate the suspect.
Identify strategies to assist in court preparation and trial.
Course Completion Requirements: Attendance and successfully pass (75% or above) a 20-question written examination.
