Rape Investigation

Course Description: This two-day class is designed to provide an effective law enforcement approach to investigating sexual assault investigations by utilizing current research findings and forensic techniques.  The focus will be on conducting a thorough investigation regarding interview techniques, detailed written reports, medical examinations, false rape allegations, Rape Trauma Syndrome, and court preparation.

Instructional Hours:  2 Days/16 Hours

Instructional Objectives:  Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  • Understand the victim's perspective.
  • Understand the role of Victim's Services.
  • Identify the types of questions to ask during an interview.
  • Identify phases of Rape Trauma Syndrome. 
  • Understand the role of a SANE/SAFE examiner.
  • Understand the importance of forensic examination.
  • Identify red flags of false rape allegations.
  • Understand the variation and complexity of evidence that can be important in these cases.
  • Properly interview and interrogate the suspect.
  • Identify strategies to assist in court preparation and trial.

Course Completion Requirements:  Attendance and successfully pass (75% or above) a 20-question written examination.
