Search and Seizure

Course Description: This course focuses on all aspects of search and seizure including: the Constitutions of both the United States and Pennsylvania; the Pennsylvania Rule of Criminal Procedure - Chapter 2000; and exceptions to the warrant requirement.  The class will discuss current case law relating to this subject.  This course would be beneficial to both Criminal Investigators and Patrol Officers.

Instructional Hours: 1 Day/8 Hours

Instructional Objectives: After completion, the student will be able to define:

  • Define the term search.
  • List the actions that constitute a search and/or a seizure.
  • Recite the source of his/her authority to conduct a search and seizure.
  • Define when he/she can lawfully conduct a search and seizure.
  • Describe the correct method for conducting such searches.

Course Completion Requirements:  Attendance and successfully pass (75% or above) a 30-question written examination.
