Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainee Information Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainees receive a salary of $1,281.60 biweekly, before deductions, during the training and coach-pupil periods.

Upon successful completion of the coach-pupil training period, Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainees are promoted to Liquor Enforcement Officer. The starting, yearly salary is currently $42,709 for Liquor Enforcement Officers.

Commonwealth employees, including Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainees, are required to join the State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS). Officers contribute 6.25% of their gross salary to SERS. New hires may elect to contribute 9.30% of their gross salary for an enhanced retirement benefit. SERS will mail Trainees a welcome packet and election form within a month of hiring. The Commonwealth is required to make a State-share contribution, with the percentage rate set by SERS.

Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainees receive medical/hospital coverage for themselves and eligible dependents. The medical/hospital coverage for the employee is the least expensive plan in their county of residence and is effective the first day of employment. Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainees pay an employee share towards the cost of their health care benefits as per their labor contract. At present, the employee share is 3% of their regular salary, effective in October 2010. Employees can earn a premium waiver of half of the percentage they must pay by enrolling in and remaining compliant with the PEBTF Get Healthy Program. Three types of health benefit plan options are available: Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), and the Consumer Driven Health Plan. The Commonwealth will pay for eligible dependents to be covered after the employee completes six months of service. The employee can choose to cover their family members at any time during the first six months by paying a biweekly dependent buy-up deduction. Employees can also enroll in a more expensive medical/hospital plan by paying a plan buy-up through payroll deduction. In 2011, the only medical plan that requires a plan buy-up is the PPO.

Supplemental benefits such as prescription, vision, dental, and hearing aid coverage are added at no cost to the employee for themselves and eligible dependents, after six months of service is completed.

After 90 days of employment, Liquor Enforcement Officer Trainees are eligible for State-paid group life insurance with a benefit equivalent to the nearest $1,000 of an officer’s annual salary, not to exceed $40,000.
